Description

A classic American sandwich featuring seasoned ground beef in a tangy tomato-based sauce, served on a soft bun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Butter (optional, for toasting buns)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Optionally, butter the buns and toast them on a skillet for added flavor.
  6. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the buns and serve warm.

Notes

📌For a spicier kick, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.

📌Ground turkey or plant-based meat can be used as a substitute for a healthier version.
