Description
A moist and flavorful traditional Amish cake made with applesauce, warm spices, and nuts, perfect for dessert or an afternoon treat.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
- Add eggs, one at a time, and beat until smooth. Stir in the applesauce.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped nuts and raisins if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Serve as is, or dust with powdered sugar or glaze if desired.
